What To Expect When Living In An Active Adult Community

The Tapestry active adult community
Once your children are out of the house, and you are getting a little older, you may find your home is too big for your needs. You may be a step slower than you used to be, but you still want a fun and active life. If this sounds like you, then living in an active adult community may be just what you need to enjoy your twilight years.

These are not retirement homes in the traditional sense. These communities are based on independent living.  Some communities have assistants on staff or for hire that can help with more difficult tasks. You would also not be living in a small room in a building like in an assisted-living facility. Instead, you would have a full-size apartment, condo or single family home. You get to decide what size and house amenities meet your needs.

An active living community has lots of amenities. They vary from place to place, mainly depending on the local climate. A few features that are common in these communities are pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, hiking trails, and community gardens.   Many also have full gym facilities that offer everything from light stretching and yoga to more intense weightlifting.

Some more upscale properties may even have a golf course and offer spa services as part of the amenities. Most communities provide tours of the facilities all you have to do is call and make an appointment.

Some of these communities have a minimum age, but that age can vary from place to place. For some, it is as low as 50, or as high as 65. Others have no age restrictions and will take anyone willing to live by the community covenants.  Socializing with your neighbors is usually a huge part of living in one of these properties. You will never feel lonely as long as you live here.
